The socio - cultural characteristics of any ethic group are the direct outcome of its physical enviroment.The Kabui society is no exception to this.Most of the Kabuis especially in the Hill district lived close to the nature controlled by the prevailing environmental conditions.
The Kabui villages are generally small in size and spatially scattered.The village have a head man called the Khulakpu (Khulakpa).All the decision pertaining to different problems are decided in the house of common called the Paikai.Here everybody express their view; and they decide the problem (assemly) in one words.
The institution of marriage among the Kabui has greatly influenced by the physical enviromental conditions and the socio milieu of the tribe (Kabui).The marriages are done by mutual consent of the boys and girls.
The Kabui are very much fond of wearing ornaments.Both the men and women pierced their ears. Ornaments and feather are worn in the ears by the males while the females normally wear brass rings. Now,the traditional dress are being replaced by the mordern dresses.The women folk has started wearing skirts and blows.Many have given up their traditional Phe-soi (shawl) and the teenagers may be seen in slacks and jeans.
